Meeting (2/25) Water Conservation Discussion!

Hi all!

Tonight we will be discussing water conservation at Kent State and around the world. There are many things that we don’t think about when it comes to our water usage and I am hoping that tonight’s discussion will open our eyes to what we are capable of. We might dabble in a few other topics of close relation as well. We are in the planning stages of this semester still, however, we have a lot planned for March and April so it should be exciting!

Plastic Pollution Meeting 1/31!

Hey KSU Environmental Society!

Tonight we will be discussing the influence of plastic pollution in our environment. The facts about plastic pollution are substantial and heartbreaking as well. Plastic is controlling our lively hood and unless we know what the problem is, it’s hard to change our behavior.

Bring any environmental news that you have found interesting in the past month and we will hopefully learn some new things tonight! We are also collecting plastic bags for recycling if you have any that you want to get rid of!

Meeting Tonight 10/10 6:30 pm 310c KSC

I hope everyone is having an awesome weekend so far! The sky today isn’t as cheerful as yesterday, but that’s okay. We don’t have much planned for this upcoming week. With exams and such leading up to Homecoming I figured we would slow it down a bit.

Tuesday, October 10th: We will be gathering together in the room (310C of the KSC) for some housekeeping items and then we will be heading on a tour of a Wetland (on campus) that Savannah, our Treasurer, will lead. We are trying to get one of our all-time favorite professors, Dr. De Szalay, that teaches the Wetlands course and see if this week or next week that he could take us out in the morning sometime during the week for those that are interested. We also have a Dr. Costello of the Biology Dept. that would love to take us on an educational outing to talk about streams sometime in the next week or 2.

Saturday, October 14th: Homecoming!!! We will be taking part in the Game Day Challenge headed by Leah Graham of the Sustainability Office. We aren’t 100% on this event. If you have any interest please let me know in the next few days so she can decide if it’s worth trying for. The purpose is to divert as much trash as we can from going to the landfill. Football games are a major trash collector.

Fall 2017 Meetings & Events!

Screenshot_2017-09-02-13-32-14 (2)

I hope you all had a wonderful summer and are ready for an awesome semester (year) at Kent State. I want to welcome all of those that are freshman and are eager to get started, as well as our returning members.

We have such an awesome semester planned for you guys! But before I dive into what we have planned for next month. I want to lay out the ground work for this upcoming semester. It’s a lot, I know, but I want us all on the same page going into this next year.

1. MEETINGS: We have confirmed that we have the room for this upcoming year and it should house us much better than last year. Meetings will be every Tuesday(unless I say otherwise) from 6:30- 7:15 (give or take 10 minutes) in room 310C of the Kent Student Center (KSC). **This may not be the same time for next semester but it will be the same day, so keep that in mind.

2. We are getting T-shirts!!! We are waiting to hear back from the company about the final cost for everyone and then we will put an order in for after our second meeting for any stragglers that would like a t-shirt. Think about what size you want as we will be tie dying them after the shirts come in. We have organic dyes of green, blue, and yellow, and even possibly red. So keep that in mind 🙂 (You don’t have to tie dye it).

3. As members of the club, I am requiring/ asking two things of you. First that you attend at least 2 of the 4/5 meetings every month AND attend any two of the many monthly (weekend) events that we will be hosting. If you can’t come to any meetings, please try to make it to as many monthly events that you can (event meaning any activity not held during the meetings). We will take attendance and those who show interest could show potential for an officer position. **I will go over this at the first meeting.**

4. BLASTOFF!!! If you were part of the club last year and want to help out, swing by the table during Blastoff and help us meet and greet! *We don’t know which table yet, but look for lots of green. If you are an incoming freshman and want to meet me or any of the officers, or just want to say hi, please don’t hesitate to stop by! (Just let me know who you are so I don’t make you register again).

Alright, I think that covers the big things that I want everyone to be aware of.

“We have teamed up with the Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement to keep the river clean and beautiful. We will set out on kayaks, canoes and on foot to gather trash between downtown Kent and Middlebury Road. This is a free program, includes lunch and is for students only.” -Recreational Services

**We will meet in front of the bus stop at 12:30 pm (we will need drivers for this event) This event is from 1-6 pm as a precaution to those that may have plans later on. It won’t take us the whole time, but I would set aside this time to be at the river.                                                           ———————————-

We are in the process of making a Google Calander in which we will share with you after Blastoff that will contain all of the meetings and all of the events that we have planned. Once I share that with you, I will let you know so that I know it works.

Thank you for joining and being a part of Kent State Environmental Society. We hope you enjoy all that we have planned!
